Requirements
Research Topic
How might Google Search and/or Youtube be the most helpful tools for high school and college students to learn for school?
  • We want to help students get unstuck, go beyond answers, and master subjects.
  • We want to inspire students to learn, be curious, and pursue lifelong interests.

Research Topic: Learning motivation and how they access technology they use.

Research Goal: Based on the Foggy behavior change model, raising the motivation and ability will make them willing to try a new product. It will help them enjoy the learning process.

Research Topic: The learning schedule, mode, and their learning accompaniment.

Research Goal: Understanding the learning habit will help create a persona in the future. And also need to consider different stakeholders at this point. For example, it might be parents, classmates, siblings, or cram school.

Research Topic: Learning goals through search and their challenges while learning.

Research Goal: Test and exam can be different forms. It can be testing on paper or a skill (Instrument, dancing, etc.) It will be helpful to analyze what challenges they might face while the learning process.

Research Topic: The existing learning product provided by Google.

Research Goal: To understand what function Google already provides. And preventing having any duplicate function on our design.

Primary Research
Research Plan

Interview Goals:
    1) Understand the target audience’s current learning experience
    2) Understand the Gen Z students’ learning challenges (get stuck)
    3) Learning style/methods
    4) Understand usage of current online learning technology and products (Google)
    5) Understand people's views of studying and their ideal learning experience in the future

Key Insights:

  • Some students struggle when comprehending new information.

  • Some students learn best through visuals, they digest the information easier and find it more engaging.

  • Some students prefer self-instruction because they can concentrate more effectively and enjoy an individual learning style.

  • To keep tasks more digestible, students like to prioritize tasks based on importance, which helps them feel organized, and ensures they have time to relax as well.

  • Not being able to focus leads to procrastination which leads to burnout and frustration with studying and education.

  • Students take notes in class to pay attention and better understand the information.

  • Sticky notes are an effective tool for taking down quick ideas, which aids me in remembering information.

  • The note I took will be reviewed to make sure I understand the content and synthesize the acquired knowledge.

  • The student relies on the professors' information as a trusted and correct source. In the end, it is also the person that is grading them.

  • I learn best when I practice more and explain what I've learned to others.

  • Students will actively continue to explore topics of their interest.

  • Students are looking for a device that can connect with their project and some very professional helpers, to find answers directly and efficiently.

  • Students seem to be motivated when they start with smaller and easier tasks which keeps them on track when they know that there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

  • The design of an educational product is important to Gen Z students. If it is unaesthetically pleasing, they will lose motivation to use it.

  • I feel motivated and excited when I browse a lot of engaging and fun information related to the topic. I will keep searching and learning.

  • Being successful and getting good grades are what give some students motivation in school.

  • Students don't enjoy reading over material for studying.

  • Students find YouTube's algorithm useful to provide the most suitable information and methods.

  • Students use both Youtube and Google to look up similar problems.

  • Students want to feel like they are finding the answers themselves. Google gives them the answer too fast sometimes so they feel like they are cheating.

  • Students like to use references because they can give them a starting point and inspiration.

  • Students think google classroom, docs, and scholar still have some glitches, hard to work and find cited sources.

Crazy8 & Ideation Organization

After we got the 11 themes from all data of research, we did Crazy 8 and Whiteboard Sessions together to do the Ideation and Sketch based on these directions. And we got 52 ideas in this process.

After that, we did organization of these ideas and concluded these 8 concept assumptions followed the HMW questions.
